Our Story
The Creation of the Salon
After attending a local Ted Talks, Alicia Lovell found herself curious about the various topics she learned about but frustrated with the inability to ask follow up questions and hold discussion on the topic at hand. She was then inspired to create a space where her friends and family members could share their knowledge and learn from others, while allowing for questions and erudite discussion following the presentations. Thus, Shine on Salon was created, and Alicia herself presented for the first Salon in December of 2022. Since then, the Salon has garnered world-wide attention, bringing together a diverse group of people connected by their desire to learn.
Every month, we host a different speaker on a topic of their choosing—typically something they excel in—and then hold 1.5-2 hours of discussion after the presentation. No prior knowledge is expected or required, and we encourage diversity of thought. Since our founding in 2022, we have had six presentations on topics ranging from quantum physics to Pablo Picasso to the end of Islamic Spain, and many more fascinating topics.

Our Team
Alicia Lovell
Founder | President
Alicia Lovell founded Shine on Salon in December 2022 and has developed it into what it is today. A California native, Alicia grew up in Sacramento and moved to Atlanta, GA as an adult, where she met her now husband and started her family. She now lives on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina with her three cats, husband, and grandcat and is an artist, mom, and poet. Her two daughters have left the nest and are living in England and Colorado as a paralegal and archaeologist, and she cannot be more proud! Alicia presented the first Shine on Salon on Picasso's painting the Blue Nude, reading an original poem based on the art piece.
Juliette Lovell
Public Relations
Alicia's youngest daughter, Juliette, joined the Shine on Salon family in 2023 and runs the social media, website, and zoom. She is currently working in Nashville, TN as a Geospatial Research Assistant and recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Anthropology and Ancient Greek and Roman Studies. She presented the October 2023 salon on witchcraft from the ancient world to modern times. Juliette enjoys reading, hunting for four leaf clovers, studying bones, hiking, tending to her plants, and spending time with her beloved cat, Sappho.
